A great experience with an old man

Yesterday I took my two youngest kids out, Adeline and Rocco.  We have a great time.  Here is a little bit what we done.

In a town called Milton, just south of where we live, we went down there to visit a community party/thing.  Well it was pretty much over and there were no more snow cones or cotton candy.  I was wanting to treat my babies and give them a great night out with dad.  As I was walking down the road, there was an old man sitting out in his yard enjoying himself.  I looked over at him and he said good day and smiled.  I said good day back and went a head and decided to walk over to him and give a chat.

To setup the situation.  He lives in a old run down trailer that is partially pink.  He is dressed in an overalls with long sleeves, there are a few holes in it.  He has white stubby facial hair and white stubby head hair.  He has no teeth.  He looks like he is about 80 years old at least.  He lived by him self.  I had the two babies in the wagon and we had picked up some stuffed animals from the near by garage sale (for free too!).  We just had a good ol chat.  He was talking to the babies.  He had 3 dogs that my 1 year old Rocco really enjoyed looking at.  They were kind of roudy behind the fence so we couldn't pet them too much.  I told him that I was going to get them a treat, snow cone or something, at the party but I was too late and that I would have to stop somewhere else.  I would have to get them an ice cream or something.  He pulled out his bifold and took out $2.00 and said "Would this help buy them something?".

Ok, a few thoughts go through your head.  I figured that I would need to be nice and say that I have it taken care of, for at least the first time he offered.  Then I had to think, this guy would love to by my kids something.  Ok, lets set up another senerio.  He might be.....  widowed, children are not in the house now, and no one is around that stops by and chats.  He might be "sitting around waiting to pass the time".  He might be a lonely man.  So now is the chance to make his day by getting something for my kids from him.  I delightly told him that I would buy something for the kids for him.  And that is just what I did.

I went to the dairy twist in Connersville and bought them a slushi, a orange and a cherry slushy.  I bought me a large vanilla ice cream cone dipped in chocolate.  Yummy.  My babies enjoyed those things.  I sure hope that I made a difference in that man's life for at least that day.

So the next time that someone says hi to you, stop and chat and not act like they are going to stab you or kidnap you.
