One of the first things that you need to do is learn the major scales/keys. Know these things inside and out, knowing the numbrer of flats and sharps. So when you get asked what are the notes in a E chord, you can say E, G#, and B. You also have to know what notes build a scale. For a major chord you need the 1, 3, 5 notes out of the major scale. A E major scale is E F# G# A B C# D# E. I know that this scale has 4 sharps, and I know what they are. Then I take the 1st, 3rd, and the 5th note and play them together and you have a E major chord. Do this any where on the neck and in any order for different voicings. |
